Day 2 - Travel - Thur, Jun 26

Got up at 4am to catch an early flight and to fight the inevitable Vancouver rush hour traffic. We made it to the airport in time, but we met a hurdle at the check-in desk.

Despite measuring every bag and carry-on to ensure it fit within the range for every flight, because the kids didn't finish packing in time, I didn't get a chance to weigh them and they were all over the limit which happened to be different from our first flight which other than carry-on, never got weighed.

Unfortunately, the airline doesn't net the total weight between our groups bags as some were a bit under and some were over. We borrowed some scales and proceeded to unpack everything and juggle the contents between them. Our luggage was strewn all over. Alese sat on one of the carry-ons so we could get the zipper shut. I put on my winter jacket and filled all the pockets with battery packs and filled my backpack with all the laptops.

Right after going through security we redistributed everything, so everyone's individual weights were off but at that point it didn't matter. If we were a little more nefarious, we could have just left a bag with the heavy stuff elsewhere and picked it up after we checked in. Needless to say, once the emotional scares have healed, I'm sure we'll look back on this as a fun team building exercise.

As for the flight? A small, cramped space with nothing but endless electronics to ease your suffering. It's like my kids have been training for this moment their entire lives.
