Day 15 - Nagoya Castle & Downtown - July 9

Nagoya Castle

The castle has been recreated after it was destroyed in WW2 and there are currently some structural integrity issues, so it is off limits to the public. Pretty much every castle has been rebuilt multiple times. Unlike castles in Europe which are mostly stone, Japanese castles are wood and are severely allergic to fire. But the views & gardens are quite nice & one of the buildings is open for public viewing.

The Crow in the Garden! A bad omen?

Downtown Nagoya

Spent time in Oasis 21 which is an outdoor mall. The water covered roof is glass and you can walk around on it. I went for a walk in a park and rested my arm on a metal rail. It was so hot I got a minor burn on my arm. Ugh!

Above me is the water covered roof
And this is the view when you are on the roof. You can see the TV tower from here.

Adjacent to it is Central Park, a large underground mall and gives you access to a TV tower you can go up to get views of the city.

You can't barely seen down to then end in either direction. And it has multiple aisles. Places like this are really had on the wallet.

We passed a massive cemetery on the way home. It must be several square kilometers. Some of the stones are massive and are clustered close together. It was like a maze. I didn't learn my lesson from last time and needed to look around. Everyone else did however and hid inside Totoro (our car).
