Day 26 - Kyoto Torri Gates - July 20

Tammy is Japanese

It's official. Tammy is Japanese. Everyone we meet talks to her in Japanese and are confused when she looks confused. She does speak Vietnamese and Chinese however. A convenience store clerk even complemented on how good her English was. 

Sadly I never get compliments for my English.  I think ample my use of idioms, sarcasm and metaphors causes people to scratch their heads. And unfortunately it is my only language. The only Dutch my old man taught me I can't repeat in mixed company. 

To-Ji Temple

Nice temple within walking distance of our place. On the grounds was the tallest pagoda in Kyoto.

Samurai Ninja Museum

You get a tour, some practice with throwing stars and get to dress up at the end. What more can you ask for.

Senbon Torii (Thousand Torii Gates)

This was very cool. If you only go to one place in Kyoto this should be it. There are so many Torri gates that walking through them at some point is like going through a tunnel. We went at night so it was a lot cooler and less crowded. There are various paths around the mountain you can follow that are littered with shrines. Also a view point part of the way up.

I like the little red bibs on the puppies. 

This little guy landed on Tammy. Aden bravely shrieked and fled.

Nice view from the top. I was quite the climb.

Terribile picture but there was a bunch of wild boar along the trail. Apparently, they can get quite aggressive so someone who worked there was trying to shoo us away. He also made us turn off all our phone flashlights which we were using to see. He said it can attract them.

Night Market

There was a night market at the entrance to where the gates are. So we tried out the delights.
